Qualities Needed for the Fast-Break

A team must have certain qualities for successful use of the fast-break:
1. Rebounding strength
The majority of fast-break opportunities occur from missed shot attempts.
2. Speed.
You need at least 3 players with good speed for good execution of the break.
3. Good ball-handling.
Without good ball-handling, fast play usually results in more turnovers than scores.
4. Physical condition.
If you don't get your team into top physical condition, do not expect success with the fast-break.
5. Good finishers.
Younger players often fail to understand the importance of "finishing" the shot.
6. The better the point guard, the better your fast-break can be.

Some Jump Shooting Hint To Help You

1. Always practice shots you will shoot in a game. If you play center or forward, it is foolish to spend a great deal of time practicing shots from the guard position. Unfortunately, many bigger players dream of being a guard and tend to practice a lot of shots that they will not get in the game.

2. Practice shooting under game conditions if possible. If you can find an opponent to challenge, the competition will be very helpful. If you are shooting alone, use your imagination to dream up games that will challenge you to do your best and that will involve earning a score.

3. Never "force" the shot. If you are closely guarded, pass to someone else or make a maneuver to get open for the shot.

4. Learn to relax when shooting. The more practice you get under competitive situations, the easier it will be for you to relax when shooting.

5. Never attempt wild or "crazy" shots.

6. Always follow through. Flipping the wrist forward as the ball leaves your hand and virtually pointing at the basket with straight fingers is the correct follow through position.

7. DO NOT SHOOT WHEN A TEAMMATE IS IN A BETTER POSITION TO SHOOT!!!
